Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)
The Juvenile Visa, known as SIJS (Special Immigrant Juvenile Status), is a form of immigration relief designed to protect minors who have been victims of abuse, abandonment, or neglect by one or both parents.
This process may allow certain minors to obtain lawful permanent residence in the United States.
Who qualifies?
You may be eligible if:
- You are under 21 years old
- You are unmarried
- You have suffered abuse, abandonment, or neglect
- A state court has determined that you cannot reunify with one or both parents
- It has been determined that it is not in your best interest to return to your country of origin
How does the process work?
The process generally includes:
- Obtaining a state court order (family or juvenile court)
